Hi homeowners! Welcome back to my blog! And today there is only one thing on my mind, and that is the Sofa! The sofa is probably the piece of furniture that people think about the most. After all, it is like the centerpiece of your living‐ room. When guests walk in, it is the first thing they see. It is also the most used piece of furniture too.
You watch TV on it, you eat snacks on it, and when you have to get together, your friends and family use it too. People spill drinks on it during parties, and pets scratch it up. A sofa gets worn down quicker than the other furniture. So, because of all of that, you need to choose your sofa carefully.
Let me take you through the checklist I use when I choose a sofa.
1. Check the frame of the sofa.
A durable frame means that it can take a lot of abuse, from kids jumping up and down to your friends piling on it during parties. An excellent solid hardwood is the sturdiest type of frame, but also the most expensive.
To test the frame, lift one leg of the sofa off the floor. If you've lifted it about five inches then the extra leg should be off the floor as well. If it is still touching the floor, then the frame has too much given, and it is too weak.
2. Test the springs.
So you lift the cushion, and you see what you have got underneath. The springs have to be perfectly balanced and supportive. Sense them through the upholstery you should feel that they are close together and firm. You could also try sitting on the corners of the sofa and test if there are any squeaks. Check every inch of the sofa before buying it.
3. Check The Stuffing
Like with most things. What are inside counts for a lot? Sofas are usually filled with polyurethane foam which is affordable and easy to care for. It is also a quite soft and very comfortable type of cushioning.
Be careful because there are foam and fiber types that flatten out quickly. But of course, this is all a matter of preference; it all depends on the amount of softness you want from your couch. Make sure to try it out and sit down on the sofa, and take your time to try every part of it.
The sofa should not be made of sheer or delicate fabric. There‘s so many fabric types you can choose from that's durable and long-lasting. Polyester, wool, cotton, leatherette...you name it. You can bring in your fabric cover for the sofa if you want!
5. Not Considering The Size of The Sofa
Last thing and guys listen carefully this is a common mistake. Not considering the size of your sofa. So please please bring a measuring tape.
Like this one. Do not go by how big the sofa looks in the store. A couch might look deceptively small in a showroom but could end up being too big for your room. So not measuring your space or your sofa can create many problems. Other than measuring the size of your area, pay attention to the scale. Your sofa should be the same scale as your other furniture, so it does not seem too big or too small when placed alongside the rest of it.
Okay, that is it! I am sure if you go through the whole checklist that I gave you you‚ll managed to find the perfect sofa for your home. Thanks again for reading! And do not forget to comment on this article. Till next time!
