Furniture is one of the most important, yet least appreciated aspects of life. You rest on it, your kids play on it, you sleep on it, and in many cases, you have it your entire life. Many people don't appreciate the sheer size of the furniture industry and are tricked into believing that WalMart, Costco, and BigLots! are the only places to buy furniture. These furniture retailers offer truly cheap furniture, as affordable as it is fickle, and often omit any consideration for quality in pursuit of hitting a price point. These are the $300 sofa sets, the $250 bedroom sets, and the $25 cocktail tables—marketed to compulsive and low-income buyers. BigLots will finance a $500 sofa for 12 months, and jump at the opportunity to start charging a whopping 29.99% interest rate after that. 1 These retailers don't care about the lifecycle of their products, and ultimately not about you. While the total market share of these types of companies is staggering, there are still so many quality furniture brands available. While these brands aren't cheap by comparison, purchasing these products online can save a tremendous amount of money—often as much as 40%!
Measuring the size of the doors is also very important before you buy the furniture for the indoors. If you have bought a larger sofa, couch, or lounge for the living room, there are chances that it may not get through the main door of the house. Most sofas, couches, or lounges are one piece sofas, couches, or lounges. This means that you have to break them to split them.
Bassett Furniture. Bassett furniture is another behemoth of a brand, operating more than 50 company-owned retail stores, selling in nearly every local furniture store, and climbing the ranks of most online retailers. Bassett is no stranger to the furniture market, and has been in operation for more than 100 years! Bassett is a publicly-traded company (NASDAQ:BSET) and therefore offers very detailed reports of their overall sales figures. In the fourth quarter of 2016 alone, Bassett furniture saw $113 million in sales, which was slightly down from 2015. With numbers like these, it's clear that Bassett is able to put some serious resources behind their delivery of high-quality, highly customization furniture. In the late 1990's, Bassett began seeing an emerging trend of companies such as Rooms to Go and other large-chain furniture retailers. Until this time, most of the furniture in the United States were sold through local 'mom and pop' type stores, which offered a really personal touch. Personality often goes to the wind when tremendous discounts are involved—and Bassett spotted the writing on the wall. With this realization in mind ,they began opening their own retail stores across the country, which today account for more than half of their overall sales. To find a store near you, just visit the Bassett store locator page. Bassett furniture is a certain shoo-in for anyone considering the top furniture brands on the market.
