Comfort. Along with the style and size, you have various comfort levels of a sleeper sofa. You have to consider two different areas of comfort. First, you have the sit on the sofa section and see how comfortable the cushions are. After that, you need to lie on the sleeper section to ensure that it is fairly comfortable; you do not want your overnight guest to be uncomfortable.
Sleeper sofas are also known as convertible sofa that simply unfolds into bed rather than hiding anything. When you want to turn it into sofa again, then the back and the arms are re-positioned so as to look like a complete sofa. With the period of time, the comfort level of this sofas along with the quality of mattress has improved with modern changes.
Second, remember that you get what you pay for. Most of us have budgets, but look for value rather than the lowest price in a sofa bed. Check out the sturdiness and motion of the folding bed frame. Is it hidden beneath the seat, which could mean a firmer seating surface, or is it hidden in the back of the sofa bed, which may allow for more seating comfort and linen storage beneath. Does the frame require the mattress to be in two pieces, or have a valley in the middle, like a futon or click-clack sofa? Also, make sure there is a good warranty.
