Not many people collect antique sofas -or have sofas of older styles custom designed. I do not think it is a bad idea, actually. If one were to decorate one home with an antique theme -with beautiful furniture, accessories and other decor, a lounge similar to the designs used in ancient Rome may be extremely beautiful. The distinct look of such a motif would be incredibly impressive to your guests, as well as an elegant environment for you and your family.
If you are lucky enough to be able to remove and launder your sofa cushion covers and back pillow covers, you have already extended the life of your couch by years! But, inevitably, the current cushion and pillow fabrics grow tired, faded, or show too many fabric pills (small ball of fibres that forms on a piece of cloth from wear), and it is time to invest some time and energy into getting new fabric or a whole new sofa.
Find your style. The sofa should math the living room in terms of style. So if your living room is minimalist, the sofa should also feature the same characteristics. Of course, you can also try to mix and match different styles and, for example, put a Victorian sofa in a modern setting. Pick a color and/or a pattern. The sofa itself shouldn't be the center of attention in the living room. So don't try to make it stand out more than it has to by choosing a very bold color. Also, trendy patterns are not a great option either. Pattern and color should come from the throw pillows or other accent elements.
